Clark Oswald 1
Clark Oswald is a practicing artist from Los Angeles, California. After attending San Francisco Art Institute for 3 years, in which he learned the art of bookmaking, printmaking, and sculpting, he moved back to Los Angeles to pursue work in garment manufacturing.
While living in the Bay Area and attending SFAI, he learned all available forms of printmaking like relief printing, lithography, etching, screen printing, and digital press printing to depict his mischievous characters and abstract forms within this new urban landscape. This is when Clark began his first comic series, “FR8 CAT”. These short 10-page, full-color comics describe a small, devious, green cat and his adventures of riding freight trains to get around the country.
Clark’s canvas work utilizes found objects, acrylic paints, and adhesives in conjunction with patterns of lines and dots to represent the relationship between our almost computerized minds and the natural world we live in.
After moving back to Los Angeles, Clark quickly found work in the print-on-demand industry. After seeing how much waste is produced in clothing manufacturing, he decided to begin utilizing defective garments in his practice. Now, he is able to mend, dye, print, sew, and embroider these garments that would’ve otherwise been thrown away, making each piece of clothing that he creates a unique, one-of-a-kind addition to anybody’s wardrobe.
